Dr. Doug Williamson Accepts Position with Coerver Coaching

Coerver Coaching of Maryland has announced the hiring of nationally recognized soccer coach and clinician Dr. Doug Williamson.  Coach Williamson’s full-time responsibilities will include team training, player clinics, coaches’ education and curriculum development.

Coach Williamson is a long-time NSCAA educator where he is a member of the elite Academy Senior Staff.   He is a recipient of the prestigiousMike Berticelli Excellence in Coaching Education Award” for his dedication to coaches’ education and player development.  Coach Williamson’s new career as a Coerver Coach will allow him to continue as an NSCAA instructor. With more than 300 wins over the course of his 21-year coaching career at the collegiate and high school level, Coach Williamson has earned a reputation for nurturing players toward their potential, having coached 11 All-Americans, 17 Scholar All-Americans, 19 all-region players, and 27 all-conference players.  His record as a head soccer coach at Nebraska Wesleyan, Wellesley College and Curry College is a combined 207-94-7. For his coaching success, he was inducted into the Curry College Hall of Fame in 2002.   Coach Williamson holds several academic degrees including a Doctor of Philosophy degree from Boston University, a Master of Theological Studies degree from Harvard, a Master of Divinity degree from the Methodist Theological School, and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Rockford College. His work has been published in many national journals primarily on topics of ethics and leadership.

Coerver Coaching Director Roy Dunshee is “thrilled” to have Coach Williamson on board.  “Obviously, having someone with Doug’s vast experience and sterling reputation will only make our organization better.  I look forward to working with and learning from him.”   For his part, Coach Williamson seems enthused by the opportunity.  “I am excited to be working within the Coerver Methodology.  Coerver has a world-wide reputation for player development and that interests me.”  Adds Dunshee, “Doug will have a huge impact not only on the hundreds of players he will influence, but on our coaching staff who will certainly benefit from his abilities as a teacher and mentor.”

With an extensive library of instructional videos, thirty years of curriculum development and coaches operating in every soccer playing nation, Coerver Coaching is widely acknowledged as the world’s top player development organization.  In Maryland, Coerver Coaching conducts summer camps, winter academies and year-round team training.
