Coerver Maryland Hires Two New Full Time Coaches

Annapolis, Maryland.    Coerver Coaching of Maryland has expanded once again with the addition of two accomplished players to its year-round staff.    Danielle Malagari and Ashly Kennedy, both former University of Maryland players have begun work at Coerver’s Winter Academies and will begin training teams full time in the spring and directing camps in the summer.  Both currently play for the Washington Freedom.

Danielle Malagari has recently returned from a year playing professionally in Denmark where she started every game for Odense Bolklub in the Danish Women’s Premiership.  At Maryland, Malagari’s teams made three NCAA appearances and as a youth player she was three times All-State, twice WCAC Player of the Year, and once All-South at Our Lady of Good Counsel while winning four league championships. She has also served as an Assistant Coach at Maryland and youth coach with the Bethesda Soccer Club where she once played with the Region I Champion Bethesda Dragons.

Ashly Kennedy joins Coerver as a former camper and counselor.  She concluded her playing career last fall by garnering NSCAA/Adidas All-Mid Atlantic Honors.  She was the two time captain of the Terps where she started all 74 games of her career and led the defense to 23 shutouts.  Kennedy came out of St. Mary’s in Annapolis as Maryland High School Player of the Year and an NSCAA All American and was a Bethesda Dragons teammate of Danielle Malagari.  She will also be serving as a part time assistant for the Loyola University women’s team.

Coerver Director Rick Stimpson expressed the importance of having experienced players on the staff, particularly players who have excelled in the women’s game.  “So many of our students are girls it’s very important for young players to see what success looks like and have strong role models.  And, of course we are proud that one of our former campers has taken her game to such a high level.  Both Ashly and Danielle have all the qualities to be great coaches and we are glad they have embraced our methodology.  We know they will make a huge impact on youth soccer in our area”.
